Julie is a student Ergo therapy at the Arteveld Hogeschool in Gent. She came to Nepal and Hamro Niwas to do part of her traineeship with us. Her assignment was to update the dossiers of twentyeighth children. That way we're able to see if there has been any progress in the children's situation compared to last year. But in the meantime ten new children came to live with us and they all needed a new dossier. So they all got tested for a lot of different things.
And as it seems at this point.....they are The Winning Team.....or were, because Julie had to go back to Gent. And beside their work they also did a lot of fun and exciting stuff with the other volunteers. For example a trip to Chitwan National Park, rafting on the white water rivers and a trip to Pokhara where they dared to go parasailing.
Janneke stays until the end of February. She will finish the last loose ends at Hamro Niwas.
René.
Julie and Janneke meet each other for the first time at the airport in Kathmandu. That of course was no “coincidence”. It was “all in the Game”.
And that's an enormous job. Visits to the doctor, meetings with colleagues from the other children home Hamro, visits to child Psychotherapy, and more. Even more work because the average Nepali never shows up on time for a meeting. That can really mess up your daily planning, so whenever you plan to meet, always ask for Nepali time or Western time? People may laugh, but they get the message.
This job seemed way too much for just one person, but in the meantime Janneke van Dijk applies for volunteer work. At that moment she worked as a behaviour therapist for Vizier in Velp, the Netherlands, an institution for people with a mental problem. Janneke wanted to go away for a while, a change of scenery.
Well that looked like a solution. Janneke and Julie could do the job together. So that's why they met for the first time at the airport in Kathmandu, the start of a very good time together.
Anyway, Julie returned home and it's never much fun seeing a volunteer leave. Presents for everybody, a feeling of sadness and back to school...bleh!
So Julie, thanks a lot for all your work, good luck with your studies and please come back...the children already miss you. And I miss you pleasant companionship and your nice Belgian dialect.
And to you Janneke? Of course a lot of thanks for all your efforts up to this point and we'll go on for a while longer!!
