It took some time but now they are here: The new computers for our children and students!
To be continued, Rene.
And these time not an ordinary computer but a beautiful shiny Fujitsu/Siemens laptop. Very luxurious you would say and that's true. But this “luxury” is necessary for several reasons.
A computer takes in a lot of space not to mention the amount of power they use. Thereby they have no power storing medium (a nice expression for battery) and that's just one thing these laptops have in advance.
In our new project Hamro Gaun we will work with our own power station there the Nepalese government can not always deliver electricity.
This small power station generates electricity by means of hydro-power from water flow from our own little river. This river provides a small but constant water flow, the whole year, day and night. Tests carried out by our engineers Bart and Thijs, have shown that we have a regular supply of 1500 Watt and sometimes even more. This 1.5 kb. must be used optimally like buying equipment which uses little energy. Think for example of energy saving lamps but also a laptop uses considerably less energy than a Personal computer.

Thereby the laptop can be restored in the night if there is electricity left. This laptop can be used during the day without having to be plugged in for over an hour to continuing working. But it's also possible to use the laptop in each (study) chamber by means of the WIFI system. Therefore a laptop is a very useful purchase in many respects. Our children are of course very happy with this new acquisition; donated by our trusted sponsor 'Armas Europe' and their supplier Australian Gold.
There are now six laptops in use in the Hamro Gaun child home. Two of our large boys have their one laptop because the live independently outside in a “Midway-house” and in their school is computer science a very important subject. With this laptop they can prepare themselves for their final exams of their study.
One laptop is gone to our new child home Mero Niwas in Barhabise and another one is used within our Day-care centre. That makes ten laptops in total!
This purchase was made possible after a good conversation with our sponsor Armas and the management of the 'Media Markt' (store for electric goods) in Alkmaar. After explanation of our projects the 'Media Markt' wanted to give their contribution for the well-being of the Nepalese students and they have given us a considerable discount. As a result it became possible to get our aimed ten laptops acquired. In fact we got two laptops for free because of the support of the 'Media Markt', how sweet!
The laptops have been transported to Nepal by the travelers of Cross-Borders and some other good friends from the Netherlands. They are already in use by our students!
Nepal is going with the time (altough it is not always for us to see) but at least our children will be prepared for the future.
With the thanks of Armas Europe, 'Media Markt' Alkmaar and the travelers who brought them here. And of course big thanks to Ajay who has installed them al in spite of the Dutch subtitles. After his good care they are now al useful in English for our Wizzkids.
