Shanker's story:
Due to the raising influation rate and the difficult situation in Nepal (increasing prices for gas, petrol, vegetables, rice etc.) the school could not provide a full scholarship to Shanker anymore and requested for a financial support to cover 50% of the costs.
The Mahamata Foundation agreed to cover those costs for Shanker and so SVN was a able to faciliate Shanker's further studies.
Shanker is a really clever boy and has constant good results in school, so we are happy that he can continue his studies.
The family comes from a very simple and poor background, they have a small piece of land, a little mud house in the village, some chicken and one buffalo. Their land is not very fertile, thus the family can only grow crops 3- 4 months per year.
One of the villagers noticed Yasodha's situation and her limited possibilities in the village due to her eye disability. So he contacted us to apply for a scholarship.
Thanks the Mahamata Foundation, Yasodha found immediatelly a sponsor and got admitted at a private school and hostel in Kirtipur, Lalitpur. This school provides books with braille script and has trained staff to support the blind girl. Besides this Yasodha studies and lives with other “normal” children and is integrated in the school community.
Stichting Veldwerk the Netherlands will soon take Yasodha for a further eye check up to make sure that she gets any medical treatment needed for her situation.
And for you dear reader, we have stil more children in need of schooling, care and medical check up's like Yashoda, on our waiting list.
Thanks,
The Veldwerkteam Kathmandu.

Shanker is a 6 year old boy who studies already in class 2.
His father died during the conflict a couple of years ago. Since then he and his mother are living without any status in the Nepalese society. The father's family didn't accept their daughter in law and their grandchild after her husband passed away and even her own father doesn't accept her as a daughter any more. They blame Shanker's mother for bringing misfortune to the family and don't even want to be close to her. So she has to manage her and her son's life without any support and even acceptance from her family.
Shanker and his mother count to the most vulnerable group in the society. Nobody takes responsibility for them and their wellbeing. They are highly stigmatized and have almost no rights.

So the principal of the Gajurmukhee school admitted them in the school and since two years the mother is living and helping there and receives a full scholarship for her son from the school itself. So she and her son can stay together and he receives good education, food and shelter.

Yasodha's story – a blind girl receives education as the first of her family
Yasodha is a seven years old girl, coming originally from the Sindupalchowk District in Nepal.
Yasodha was born without eye sight, as the last of her parents' 6 children.
Having only a very basic income and growing crops in the subsitence sector without making any profit, the parent always had a hard time bringing up their children with an appropriate support. The parents themselves are illiterated and due to lack of awareness and certainly lack of financial means, they were not able to send any of their children to school.
