Blind children in Nepal.

Babhuram en Malati Tamang voor de operatieMalati Tamang and her younger brother Babhuram Tamang are deserted by their parents. Because right after the birth of Babhuram appeared that he had the same eye disease as his older sister Malati. At that moment she was already almost blind. Probably due to the lack of money, attention and the power to take care of their children, their parents left them alone.

Both children, 11 and 15 years old, are completely blind now, but they can see the difference between night and day. This spring, Malati had a terrible pain in her eye. It was big, grey and dead. There was nothing what could be done, so it had to be removed. But there was no money for the surgery, which was € 50
We directly paid the surgery. But after the surgery their was a hole in her face, so we gave her an artificial eye. But this is not done immediately. After the surgery the orbit had to recover. So we had to go to the hospital several times, but that is all in the game…

Her stepmother told us that Malati's school was not all right. And she asked us if we knew something better. So we looked for it, found it and Malati goes to a good school now, where they also have special education for blind children. She is in that boarding school now, because it is too far from their home to go up and down every day. So she is going to her stepmother only in the holidays now. Malati has a lot of friends at school. Se learns to read Braille from a blind teacher. But she is also going to the normal listening classes with children who are not blind.
The costs for a full school year, special education, boarding, uniform, books etc. are only € 650. Judith Henley from England wanted to sponsor this sweet girl. We are very grateful for her great gift, so a BIGG THANKS to Judith!

Niraj voor de operatieNiraj Tamang is a boy, who is going to Indrahanus Boarding school. Our children from the Contact Centrum are going to that school now too. Niraj was fallen with his eye on a stick, after his friend pushed him. He lost his eye. Beside all the pain and sorrow, there was a lot of dust in his open orbit, so it became infected. There was no one who could do anything, because there was no money. This already happened a long time ago.
The shape of his orbit has been changed. This was a big problem when they wanted to give him an artificial eye. A lot of surgeries were needed. They removed some soft flesh from his inside cheek, and put it in his orbit. Now the shape of his orbit has been recovered, so they could give him a new artificial eye.

They had to make the artificial eye especially for him. A standard artificial eye didn't fit. The eye doctor painted the artificial eye exactly as his good eye. After a week they could put it in. The eye doctor explained his older sister how she could help him with putting his eye in and out. “First cleaning hands, don't make them dry, otherwise there are bacterial again…then seize the eye carefully and remove it. She learned it very fast. And Niraj, he is very happy with his new eye. If you don't know it, you can not see that it's fake eye.

brandwonden, zoals bij dit jongetje van het DNCNext patient,
Not long ago, someone told me about a child far in the mountains, who was fallen in the open kitchen fire, like many other children do. Result: Heavy burnings. I went to visit him. No words, but actions! But repairing burnings is an expensive thing. It is not for cosmetic reasons, but to make his arms and legs functional again. It is also to prevent infections. I will keep you posted.
But we are doing the work her, climbing the mountains up and down, going to the hospital, helping the patient and family etc. etc.
But you can also help us. Because without money, it is no use to climb up and down the mountains. So…now it's your turn. Thank you very much.

And special thanks from the disabled children in Nepal, who thanks to you get a new future, joy and trust in humanity.
