Buying new land and the new building.

Buying a piece of land in Nepal is not easy. One has to pay good attention. Dealing with 4 different parties so you can compare and choose the best is not done in Nepal. So you behave as the locals do and therefore have one partner at the time. As it sometimes takes about 4 months, we just give up and switch over to the next landowner.

Again we found a nice spot, and this time just 2 owners instead of 15. The price is quite high, so we bargain as common here. To reach this location, one has to cross a muddy path, well things could be worse. Finally, when we received the copies needed, we found out that this muddy road does not exist officially and has been built illegal to sell the 'field along the road' for a good price.

mooie_bouwgrond O.k., what is next??

A nice field, situated along a main paved road. In the middle of a nice forest, a small river and only one family to deal with! All brothers, so no problem according to the 3 spokesmen. A price is fixed quickly as we are quite experienced now! Everybody happy, finally we have our land, and the inconvenience of waiting and dealing with so many sellers has been forgotten at once.

But than it became quiet.

The spokesmen just forgot to inform 2 of the 10 family members who now feel very ignored and refuse to cooperate anymore. Nothing happens anymore, not even after 10 cups of tea. As we really are interested and do want to buy this field, we personally get in contact with the 2 family members. After some Nepali misunderstandings, we succeed and can close the deal.

Meanwhile the newspaper announces that the government plans to found a new ring road along the yet existing one. This new ring road should be finished between 2015 en 2020 and will make all small and authentic villages in the Kathmandu valley available for traffic. Unfortunately this is exactly the location of our new field so 5 of the 10 sellers decide to double the fixed price!! And so do all landowners!!

Such a pity for us, our budget does not include doubled prices and this brings us back to zero…. To be continued….
