What happens around and in the children's home in a day????

Nothing very glamorous if you compare it with a day in Europe or somewhere else but it's different. At the weekends for example it's laundry day in contrast to Monday in the Netherlands. The lack off a hot shower in the rented house means we boil the water on Saturday, and all the children have a big wash which Fullmaya Gurung is in charge of.

Before the children are washed we check them for hair lice, which we also do every free moment during the week. This is not a unique activity reserved just for children's home a lot of Nepali's check for hair lice on a daily basis.

Here under these primitive circumstances every now and then a lice plague occurs.
The children sit very closely together in very small class rooms, and they sleep with 6to 8 children in bunk beds. Having these very close working and sleeping conditions means the lice get a very good opportunity to spread and breed rapidly.
To treat the condition we use a lice comb and give the children's hair 2-3 washes with special shampoo.

It looks like the old days, when you had the kettle on the stove and the big sink bucket in the middle of the room. And a small pan to poor the water over the head and body.

After washing the children we dry them and let them warm up in the sun. In our new house we will get a solar system and a boiler for hot water so the children can get a normal shower but we don't have a choice at the moment.

And some times… yes, we have to cut the hair!
