The birthday of Hamro Niwas….

In the beginning of may we celebrated the second birthday of Hamro Niwas, together with the birthdays of our children because we don't know the exact date of birth from a lot of them.

Again it was a big surprise for the children when they came home from school, we had managed to keep it a secret, although a few of the children were getting suspicious. It turned out to be a big surprise! The Raddison hotel, here in Kathmandu, made us a big birthday cake, like they did last year, so the children had a lot of cake to satisfy their need for sweets.

We also gave all the children a present, and Hamro Niwas, also got a lot of presents from friends of the organisation. Besides the truckload of sweets and candy we also received a TV set, with VCR and a lot of childrens tapes from Judith Henley from England. She worked in Nepal as a nurse, but went back to Europe. It was a great gift and we're very happy with it. The mountainhouse hotel in Pokhara provided us with a nice frame with wheels where the whole set fits in.

An English friend of ours, Less Sim, arranged a cable connection for the TV, so suddenly the National Geographic, MTV, Cartoon Network and the BBC have been introduced into our childrens world - we all feel quite spoiled these days.

A few of the students from Nava Indradhanush boarding school and our children gave a dancing demonstration which was accepted with great enthousiasm among the guests and neighbours.

The Kantipath 1905 restaurant had offered us two cooks and a waitor which we happily accepted. They brought along a grill on which they cooked chicken to create the best Dal Bhat we had tasted in a long time. Fantqa and Cola came along to make this day a complete success for us and for the children.
