Gardening in Sankhu

ons mooie land
As you know, we bought a piece of land two years ago to realize our project Hamro Gaun. A part of this project is the Ecological garden. Due to the fact that we did not live in the neighbourhood of the project and lack of time, the ground lies fallow for some time.

However, school holidays started and the kids have a lot of free time. As a fact they spent their time with watching cartoons on television like Mickey Mouse and the Lion King.
“ That is a waste of time with this beautifull weather, let's go outside to work in the garding, it make you big and strong”.
I bought some sets of gardening tools so we could really start. After a day working in the garding on Nepali style, some hard workers had some blisters on their hands. Of course it relates to hard working. I told them I had the same problems in my early days. But it was worth the blisters, have a look at the results.

In the past I received some seeds from different people. For exemple from Martijn de Gier, Family Groenewoud, Gerard Urselman and the Company 'Ranzijn tuin&dier in Alkmaar. Seeds for flowers, vegetables, corn and pumpkins.
Some of the seeds last for one year, others for more years. A superpresent for us! When the kids saw the colourfull bags with their favourite vegetables and the nice flowers, they were happy to join.

We divided our 32 children in groups of 4 and provided them with their own piece of land. After spading, every child was allowed to chose his/her own bags of seeds. As a fact every piece of land contains four different kinds of products. The kids are responsible for their own piece of land. Isn't it nice?

During this time of the year, it is very dry. Due to the fact that the brook passes our land, no problem exists. The garden has almost been finished and now we have to wait if the seeds are coming up. Ik keep you posted. With for now, greeting from a warm Kathmandu.
