Excellent school results, thus time for a little party!

All of our 31 children in Hamro Niwas go everyday to the government school, about one quarter of an hour walking from the children's home. This they always do under the guidance of our guard and helper Ramesh, a particularly kind boy.

Klaar om naar school te gaan Yes, and now there was the half yearly exam, for the intermediate report. This always is a really thrilling time of the year and they work very hard to study every subject. Sometimes, I even think they work a little over intense.
After the exam it usually takes up to about a month before the results are known and this might even be the most exiting part!

Well, the results came in phases, but last week finally all the results were there! And again it turned out that our children are performing incredibly well! There were indeed a few less good marks for maths, but these were only 4 out of 8 subjects multiplied by 31 children, so not bad at all, I would say! You also have to see this in the light of classes in Nepal consisting of 80 to 100 children and sometimes even more than 120. Class 4 now has about 350 children, split into three groups.

Now see, if you consider these circumstances and realize that some of our children are even then still 1st, 3rd, 8th and 12th from the class, then these are incredible good results indeed! In the last few years we also noticed with a few of our children some difficulties with studying. We gave these children some extra and special attention. Our Mohan, for example, rise like a rocket this time from number 75 up to number 40 of his class! Well, this is of course amazing, don't you think?
Our youngest toddler is Prabina Pariyar who scored 97% from the maximum amount of points. Last year, she was always sleeping in the nursery, but now she got hold of the right spirit!

Samjana Lal Bahadur

Samjana Chaudary entered Hamro Niwas last year. She was afraid, traumatized and missing one eye. She also didn't speak a work Nepali, except for her Taru dialect and a little Indian Hindi. Samjana was adopted warmly by the other children and received from us the necessary medical attention including an artificial eye. The teacher from the school then actually wanted to refuse her because of her strange dialect and scary face without that eye. But with some light pressure from our side, she was accepted after all. Samjana now was 4th in her class with 89.6%. Great, isn't it?
And all this is made possible by the great care from our Nepali staff, Phulmaya, Debokhi and Ramesh and of course also because of the great contribution by all our visitors who helping sometimes voluntary. They work here to help our children from a disadvantage position to get to a life in future with much more perspective.

And the children, they enjoy it in every possible way! They now all got a small present and the best of them got something extra to it. We receive these presents from the visitors from Holland and store them for a special occasion like this.
The monsoon gets to its ending. This made it a very warm and moist day, but this couldn't keep it from being a great event! And with a fresh pack of noodles, it becomes a day to not forget!
Just take a look at the pictures, they speak for themselves.

With kind regards from Kathmandu, René Veldt
